The Planets

Throughout time and across cultures, the planetary bodies surrounding the earth have been believed to each have a certain energetic influence. When looking at astrological systems, we see that zodiac signs are “ruled” by specific planets. Each one has a different effect on us as empaths. Depending on how well versed you are in astrological studies, this planetary information can be applied to something as complex as a natal chart or to something as simple as noticing that Venus is visible on today’s horizon.

Sun: Being the center of our solar system, the Sun represents the sustenance of life and the power of change. The Sun as a physical planet activates life on this planet, sustaining existence and allowing us all to thrive. From the vantage point of the earth, the Sun transits through the signs of the zodiac, so it’s wise for empaths to be aware of these transitions and come to conclusions about the influence of these shifts. The Sun is also symbolic of the masculine/projective energy, the ego, and self-identity, which are valuable qualities for empaths to invoke, helping us become more secure in our identity instead of merely going by the assessments of others.

Moon: In metaphysical systems worldwide, the Moon represents the internal landscape. Being the silent and gorgeous satellite we all observe in the night sky, Lady Luna travels through each zodiac sign (usually every few days) from our vantage point on earth. It can be valuable for empaths to pay attention to which sign the Moon is in at any given time, as this can help us understand how the signs can influence our deepest emotions. The Moon in its various aspects—waxing, waning, full, and new—has various symbolic qualities and represents the power of change, particularly emotional change.

Earth: The gorgeous planet we call home is the centerpiece of it all. It’s easy to get caught up in the energetic influences of the cosmic bodies, but it’s equally important to ground ourselves to the rhythm of nature. We can ground the macrocosmic views of the universe into the microcosm of terrestrial living. By paying attention to the cycles and patterns of the natural world, we can become more aware of synchronicities and life lessons playing out in our everyday existence.

Mercury: Mercury is the planet that moves the fastest around the Sun. For this reason, Mercury is often considered to be the messenger planet, who quickly communicates information. Aligned with numerous deities across ancient mythical systems, Mercury is said to oversee communication, technology, and scientific fields of study. Mercury’s fast-paced and intellectual energy can help us examine our emotions from an objective point of view.

Venus: Oh Venus, luscious planet of love! Venusian energy is particularly appealing to empathic souls because it reminds us that love is the guide for life; without love, we cannot progress as a culture or as individuals. It is by valuing love in all its forms that we can create a deep gratitude for life’s blessings, even during tumultuous times.
